So, Why Thorpe & Brown?
Established in 2012, Thorpe & Brown is a design studio, workshop & showroom set in a conservation area in the beautiful village of Burbage, Leicestershire.
We want to share our love of Jewellery Making with you, and our custom-built teaching workshop is a great place to take some time out from our busy lives and learn a new skill.
Our workshops begin at 10am, and our teacher Jodie will be here to greet you. She'll give you an overview of health & safety, and talk you through the process of making your piece of jewellery.
There's plenty of tea, coffee & biscuits to keep you going!

Thorpe & Brown Workshops
Our workshops are great for beginners, or those with some making experience. Whether you want to start with something simple or tackle something a bit more adventurous, we can guide you through the making.

We can accommodate up to 7 participants per workshop, each having their own bench space. We'll provide you with an apron, and all the tools you'll need for the day, as well as the silver to make your jewellery.

How long do the workshops last?
Our workshops take place on Saturday Mornings - they begin at 10am and are usually finished around lunch time.
Where are the workshops held?
Our Workshops are held at our bespoke teaching workshop in the heart of Burbage, Leicestershire.
Please note that the teaching workshop is upstairs. If you would like to discuss another option due to mobility please give us a call.
There is available on street parking along Aston Lane, this is the road opposite to us. If you have any problems finding us give us a call on 01455 635088 - we'll be happy to help.
Do I need to bring anything?
We recommend bringing glasses if you need them for close-up work.
Closed-toe shoes are preferable.
Can I take home what I make?
Absolutely - you will leave with a complete piece of jewellery that's all yours to take away
Can I gift someone a workshop?

Do I need any experience in jewellery making or silversmithing?
Our workshops are perfect for both those who have no experience and those with previous skills!
Can I make anything I like?
During our Ring & Bangle workshops you will make a simple band or bangle. You can add details such as twists and knots, and different finishes.
If you have something more adventurous in mind please get in touch.
Do you offer Group Workshops?
Absolutely! Any workshop date can be booked by a single group, provided the minimum number of 6 is reached.
These can be for special events, birthdays, hen parties or Corporate Events.
We also try to accommodate special requests for your preferred date - please get in touch.

How to accurately measure your finger & work out material. Forming, soldering, filing, buffing & polishing. Texture & pattern making.

Silver Bangle Making
Our Bangle making class takes you through all the basics including a guided tour of the workshop. The tools and materials jewellers use to make silver jewellery. How to accurately measure your wrist & work out material. Forming, soldering, filing, buffing & polishing. Texture & pattern making.
By the end of the class you will have completed a unique & personal Silver Bangle to take home.
You can also purchase charms to add to your bangle, or bring your own!

Make your own Wedding Rings
To make each others wedding rings is truly unique and special. The workshop is yours exclusively, while we guide you through every step of the process.
The cost for the private workshop hire to make your own Wedding Rings is £495 plus materials.

Special Occasions & Groups
Fancy having the workshop all to yourself?
You can book the Workshop exclusively to celebrate a special occasion or simply reconnect.
Have a special birthday, team building exercise or hen party coming up? Try something different!
The price for groups of up to 7 people is £450 to make Rings, with the option to upgrade to Bangles for an additional £15 each.
Also, if you can't see an available date that suits you we will always try and accommodate - please get in touch.
The skills you need to make your own jewellery

Healthy & Safety
Our instructor will go over all health and safety at the beginning of the class to ensure all tools and materials are used safely.

Tools
From Aprons to Saws, Files and Hammers - we provide everything you need.

Materials
Silver Wire for Rings and Bangles, and Silver Sheet for Pendants will be provided, as well as solder.

Measuring
You will learn how to accurately measure the silver to create and perfect size jewellery for you, or a loved one.

Forming
You'll be shown how to form your silver into shape, using a mallet and mandrel, and pliers.

Soldering
Using Solder Paste and a Flame, you will heat and solder your own Ring, Bangle or Pendant.

Filing
Different Files will be used to smooth off any bumps.

Buffing
Various types of buff paper are provided to allow you to create a professional finish.

Polishing
Our polishing motor is equipt with different mops to create different finishes, from super polished to matt and textures.
