Transforming a Wedding Ring into Two Meaningful Pendants

Jewellery often holds far more than material value - it carries memories, stories, and deep emotional connections. This recent bespoke commission was a beautiful example of how sentimental jewellery can be thoughtfully reimagined while preserving its history.

Our client came to us with a treasured piece: their mother’s wedding ring. While the ring itself was no longer being worn, its significance remained incredibly important. The brief was clear - create two wearable pieces that could be shared, while retaining as much of the original character as possible.

The Concept: One Ring, Two Keepsakes

Rather than melting the ring down or completely redesigning it, we proposed a more meaningful approach:
carefully cutting the original band into two matching hoop pendants.

This allowed us to:

• Preserve the original gold
• Maintain the classic circular symbolism of the wedding band
• Create two individual pieces with equal emotional value

Most importantly, we wanted to ensure the story of the original ring remained visible in both pendants.

Preserving the Hallmark

One of the most special aspects of this project was the hallmark inside the ring — a small but powerful detail that authenticates the piece and ties it to a specific time and place.

Rather than losing this during the transformation, we took great care to:

• Precisely divide the ring so each half retained part of the original hallmark
• Ensure both pendants carried a visible connection to the original piece
• Honour the craftsmanship and heritage of the ring itself

This detail turned each pendant into more than just jewellery - it made each one a continuation of the original story.

Craftsmanship and Process

The transformation required careful planning and precision at every stage:

1. Assessment of the ring
   We examined the structure, thickness, and hallmark placement to determine the best way to divide it evenly.

2. Careful cutting and shaping
   The ring was expertly cut into two halves, ensuring structural integrity and symmetry.

3. Forming the pendants
   Each half was refined into a smooth hoop shape, maintaining the natural curve of the original band.

4. Finishing touches
   We polished the gold to restore its warmth and brilliance, while preserving subtle signs of its history.

5. Adding chains
   Each pendant was paired with a delicate chain, allowing it to be worn comfortably every day.

The Finished Result

The final result is a pair of elegant gold hoop pendants - simple, timeless, and deeply meaningful.

Each pendant:

• Holds half of the original hallmark
• Retains the symbolism of the wedding ring
• Can be worn daily as a reminder of a loved one
